In December, 4, 1997 V.P. Chernykh became a corresponding-member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in speciality “Chemistry of physiologically active substances”. Joining the higher reaches of academic life of Ukraine was the eloquent confirmation of his scientific achievements and the first presentation of pharmaceutical sciences in the NAS of Ukraine.
	In 2011 the conferment of the title of Honorary citizen of Kharkov to V.P. Chernykh was the recognition of his achievements.

In March 6, 2015 there was an historic event not only for the National University of Pharmacy, but for pharmacy of Ukraine – it was the victory of the rector of the National University of Pharmacy, professor V.P. Chernykh in the competition for the position of a full member (academician) of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
History is created by Individuals – heroes of our times. Our rector and the head of the Department is an idea provider, enthusiast and a pioneer in many initiatives, a reformer. Under his supervision at the Organic Chemistry Department the following research area has been created: the purposeful synthesis of biologically active substances, which are derivatives of dicarboxylic acids and heterocyclic structures, the study of their reactivity and mechanisms of chemical transformations, determination of the relationship between the chemical structure, physicochemical properties and the biological activity with the purpose of creating effective medicines, development of the optimal preparative methods and eco-friendly technologies for obtaining active pharmaceutical ingredients; the study of polyfunctional reagent cyclization routes. Valentin Petrovich created the national school of synthetic chemists where 14 Doctors of Sciences and Candidates of Sciences (PhDs) were prepared, 16 medicines were developed: (“Glysulfasid” with the hypoglycemic action, “Diacamph” with the anti-diabetic action, “Succifenate” with the haemostatic action, “Analben-retard” with the analgesic action, “Peronix” with the antiseptic action, etc.).
Valentin Petrovich is the chief pharmacist of the country, a goal-oriented person dedicated to the University and pharmacy. Only a strong man with a strong character, an ambitious force of will and a powerful energy was really able to win a marathon and reach the scientific Olympus.
